The WellBeing Foundation was founded in 2003, out of the abundance of compassion and uncommon ability for effective action, which its Founder / President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki has for the development of people and communities.
The WellBeing Foundation President, Her Excellency, Mrs. Saraki, Kwara State First Lady, has long served as one of the Initiators/Trustees of the Lagos based The Lifestream Charity established for the provision of medical treatment of Nigerian children suffering from life threatening diseases and other conditions, particularly heart disease. Through this personal, long-standing philanthropic and volunteer experience, Mrs Saraki could not simply fold her arms and ignore the yearnings of the populace for assistance towards self reliance.
Arriving Kwara State as First Lady in 2003, Mrs Saraki immediately embarked on an “Assessing the Needs tour of the state. This was an extensive consultative experience which gave birth to the Kwara Wellbeing Trust also known as Alaafia Kwara to cater to the needs of the good people of the state providing wide ranging support and opportunities to all and complementing efforts of the First Lady’s office. Alaafia Kwara is widely effective under the auspices of The WellBeing Foundation as a separate and distinct non governmental organization independent of the Office of the Wife of the Governor. Aside from all the initiatives and interventions of Alaafia Kwara, it also serves as a platform for other NGOs, CSOs and CBO to network and collaborate.
The extensive community development work, grassroots participation strategies and the successful efforts of WBF at harnessing political will to effect change has facilitated the building up of a base of over 1500 registered groups, societies, trade and development associations and unions who are energetic volunteer-advocates for various enlightenment campaign embarked on by WBF.
With ongoing community interaction in the Kwara State, it became clear that a coherent non governmental strategy was needed for Nigeria not only to provide necessary impetus to the effort of individual efforts to generate our own prosperity, but also to provide a framework for collaborative efforts between NGO's, hence, the emergence of The WellBeing Foundation.
The WellBeing Foundation believes that Nigeria is rich in human resources. We have set ourselves the task of ensuring that this human capital is not wasted by the lack of an infrastructural support base, that all might realise their full potential.
The Office of the Wife of The Governor, Kwara State continues to fulfil its pastoral and motherly role, discharging traditional derivative duties with dignity and empathy, separate and distinct from The WellBeing Foundation and its sister bodies .
